The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program is a federally-funded supplemental nutrition program. WIC supports Florida Families by providing the following at no cost:
- Healthy foods
- Breastfeeding support
- Nutrition education
- Referrals to other services
Families are screened for nutritional risk and income eligibility. Licensed nutritionists and nutrition educators determine eligibility and provide nutrition assessment, counseling, and education to assist families in making healthier nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle choices.
HOW WIC Works
Read Floridaโs WIC program guide, available in English, Spanish, and Kreyรฒl.
WIC and Nutrition Services are availableย by appointment only.ย Callย 1-800-342-3556ย to schedule an appointment.
WIC is available to pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women; infants, and children under 5 years of age. Fathers are welcomed to bring their children to apply for WIC. Legal guardians and/or foster parents of children under the age of 5 may apply for WIC services on behalf of their child.
Participants must also be at nutrition risk. The assessment of nutrition risk is made by a Nutritionist of other health professional at the WIC office, at no cost to the client.
To be eligible for the WIC program a familyโs gross income must not exceed the amounts listed in theย WIC Income Guidelines, OR you are income-eligible if you are currently receiving Medicaid, Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA), or Food Assistance. However, you do not have to be on a public assistance program to qualify for WIC. Use theย WIC Prescreening Toolย to see if you might be eligible for WIC.
