Our mission at the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County (DOH-Hillsborough) is to empower our community with the needed knowledge to make informed decisions about HIV. We provide valuable data to the public, community-based organizations, researchers, city planners, policymakers, healthcare providers, and government officials at all levels.
Our dedicated team gathers, analyzes, and shares information about people living with HIV in Hillsborough County. This includes understanding the overall picture of HIV Trend and the health outcomes of people with HIV over time.
Tracking this information helps us:
- Collect Information – We gather data on new and existing diagnoses of HIV, including Stage 3 HIV (previously known as AIDS).
- Analyze Trends – We study this information to understand how HIV is affecting our community.
- Share Knowledge – We make this data available to help everyone understand the local situation.
- Train and educate medical providers
Florida, along with all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 6 U.S. dependent areas, uses a uniform, confidential, name-based system for reporting HIV diagnoses. This ensures accuracy while protecting privacy. Chapter 381.0031, Florida Statutes, requires the reporting of all positive HIV tests, viral loads, and CD4 counts to the Florida Department of Health.
