Health in All Policies (HiAP) is “a collaborative approach to improving the health of all people by incorporating health considerations into decision-making across sectors and policy areas.”— Public Health Institute: Health in All Policies: A Guide for State and Local Governments
Public health professionals have historically worked across sectors to protect population health. Examples come from many different fields:
- Supporting seatbelts, impaired driving laws, child seats and crosswalks in transportation
- Supporting workplace safety, workplace age restrictions, smoke
and tobacco-free laws in labor - Supporting tobacco labeling and advertising restrictions in media
- Supporting vaccine requirements, physical activity, and healthy food options in schools
The Office of Health Equity’s HiAP strategy engages
- Positive changes to neighborhoods or community health conditions
- Positive progress incorporating health equity goals across DOH-Hillsborough
- Goal alignment across sectors
- New or expanded partnerships for health
Policy change that helps improve community health
Recent HiAP Projects:
- 2019 Transportation Planning and Prioritization Matrix
- Imagine 2040 Tampa Comprehensive Plan: An integrative review and comparison to the Orlando Growth Management Plan
- Walkability Study in the University Area Community
