DOH-Hillsborough Celebrates Disease Intervention Specialists

Hillsborough County, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County (DOH-Hillsborough) would like to recognize all our Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS). Today is National Disease Intervention Specialist Recognition Day.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognizes DIS as the “backbone of public health.” DIS ensure individuals infected with or exposed to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) – such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, hepatitis, HIV, human papillomavirus (HPV) or trichomoniasis or Tuberculosis – are tested and treated. Additionally, DIS are at the forefront when responding to emerging health threats, such as Zika and COVID-19.
