Rabies Surveillance

Florida Department of Health - Hillsborough County

Rabies is a deadly viral disease that can be prevented but not cured. The virus attacks the brain of warm-blooded animals, including people.

The Florida Department of Health is tasked with investigating all potential human and pet rabies exposures in effort to protect human health. If you have been bitten, scratched, or had any saliva contact from an animal that can carry rabies into a wound or mucous membrane, seek medical attention immediately.
